This book was written to help kids 8-12 process through some of the thoughts and questions that arise as their parents get divorced. There are examples and stories to help children understand they are not alone. The author, Cynthia MacGregor, walks through a set of questions that children may be asking.
Why can’t my parents stay married?
What is going to happen now?
How do I deal with these feelings?
Am I the only one that feels this way?
This book is written from the perspective of a mom as she walked through divorce and witnessed her daughter go through the questions and feelings. She writes simply and voices hope without sugar coating the difficult situations that come with divorce.
My favorite things about this book include
- Great tips on what to do with feelings – chapter 4
- List of the most important stuff as a summary – chapter 10. This is a great quick summary!
- Bill of Rights for Children – at the end – great list for both children and parents taken from Parenting After Divorce: A Guide to Resolving Conflicts and Meeting your Children’s Needs
- Note to Parents – at the end – written by Hugh R. Leavell
- Resources for parents and children – a good list of books for supporting all sides of divorce
